PC Hardware Problem and Solution

  • Problem: upgrade exiting 32GB RAM by adding new ram of 2x16GB, but PC shows 32GB available out of 64GB, other RAM related crash, not boot up
    • Solution:
      • study: old ram typically is at slower ram speed, like 2400MHz, new RAM typically at higher speed like 3000MHz and old RAM not available in market anymore
      • study: also old motherboard may not see future RAM for its bios,
      • Solution: go motherboard website, and download latest bios firmware and put in a USB drive to install on bootup and bios menu
        • then put old ram in 2,4 slot, the 2nd from CPU, then new ram in 1,3 slot
        • go bios, enable Auto XMP for ram, and choose the lower speed of 2 type in A XMP setting, in this example case, 2400 for (2400+3000), and manual choose RAM speed as 2400 for this example case.
        • now save change and reboot, you should get both right and system stable
